My Olympic Experience
Posted by Helen on 10 September, 2012
The Olympics and Paralympics in London have ended, and I want to share my favorite memories. It was a fantastic summer full of fun and excitement!
The Opening Ceremony
The Opening Ceremony was beautiful and creative. There were dancers, music, lights, and fireworks. One of the best parts was when Queen Elizabeth appeared in a short film and seemed to jump out of a helicopter with James Bond! It made everyone laugh and feel proud.
Team Great Britain
Our team did really well! We won many medals and finished in third place overall. I was especially excited about Mo Farah, who won the 5,000 and 10,000-meter races. Jessica Ennis also did an amazing job in the heptathlon, and Nicola Adams made history by winning the first women’s boxing gold medal.
The Fans and the Crowd
The crowd was loud and full of energy. People cheered not just for the British team but for athletes from around the world too. I remember how excited everyone was to see Usain Bolt from Jamaica run. Oscar Pistorius from South Africa also made history. He was the first disabled runner to compete in the Olympics.
New Sports
During the Games, I discovered new sports I had never watched before. I enjoyed judo and wheelchair tennis, and I even started watching goalball during the Paralympics. I never thought I would like these sports so much!
The Spirit of the Games
It took years of planning and many volunteers to make the Olympics happen. The organization wasn’t perfect, but the friendly atmosphere made it special. People in London were talking to strangers on the train – something that doesn’t happen often!

| A. True | B. False |
26. The writer learned about new sports by watching the Paralympics.
| A. True | B. False |
27. Why did Mo Farah’s victory stand out to the writer?
| A. Because he broke a world record during the race |
| B. Because he was born in Jamaica and became a British citizen |
| C. Because he won the 5,000 and 10,000-meter races |
| D. Because he was the first person to win a gold medal for Team GB |
28. What does Helen say about the volunteers?
